It all started after Martha took over Baytown Motors, an auto body shop hidden behind a Realty office that survived off a contract with a Baytown car dealership...until the dealership cancelled their contract. Needing an eye-catching landmark for her shop to attract new customers, Martha refurbished an old Mustang II - painted it a bright "raspberry" color, somewhere between hot pink and purple, and planted wildflowers inside it. The day after she put the Mustang out in the parking lot, the City's Office of Enforcement was inundated with complaints about the Mustang, that it was a violation of the Junk Car Ordinance, a new ordinance in place to help beautify the City and get rid of the blight of junk cars sitting out in people's yards.
Who is out to get Martha? A disgruntled customer, an unhappy employee, a competitor...all of the above? Throw in Martha’s angsty teenage son, her estranged ex, and the return of an old flame and Martha finds herself struggling to survive in the center of a legal circus that's dividing her town and putting her livelihood at risk.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO BRING THIS PROJECT TO LIFE! Martha is alive and well, as are many of the real-life characters from our story. People of Baytown still remember the "purple planter" and the fight with City Hall.
In order to do justice to Martha's story, we are planning a larger production than Acid Test, with the key focus right now on securing a recognizable, name actor. If you don't know, this is called the "Development" phase of production.
Like priming a pump, it takes money to get money...
We are raising $50,000 in DEVELOPMENT FUNDS! These funds will secure:
- Casting Director - now that the strike is over, this person has the relationship with agents and managers to secure a name actor
- Lawyer - to write the contracts and set up the later investment structure
- Line Producer - this person finalizes the budget and schedule
- "Hold Fee" for Name Actor - we have at least 7 characters in our ensemble that could attract a caliber actor that would open up critical resources like distribution avenues

About Jenny Waldo:
Jenny Waldo combines her experience as a documentarian and a scripted narrative filmmaker to produce content that speaks to the human experience. A producer, writer, director, film educator, and accomplished crowdfunder, credits include her recent feature film directorial debut Acid Test, which premiered at the Austin Film Festival and is available on digital platforms, associate producing on the indie feature The Preacher’s Daughter which sold to Lifetime, and the Starz feature documentary The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing among various shorts, educational series, and music videos. Recently, Jenny's script Honeymoon Adventurers was selected as a Second Rounder at Austin Film Festival and her next feature, Martha’s Mustang, was selected as a Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist, garnered a development grant from the City of Houston, and was selected for several development labs including the Stowe Story Narrative Lab and is slated for a 2025 production. In the meantime, Jenny is excited to explore the suspense genre with her upcoming short Twofer, written by Noel Thompson and produced by Sommer Garcia. A proud alum of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a MFA in Film Production, Jenny advocates for upcoming filmmakers and professional development through her volunteer work at the non-profit Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) and her instruction at Houston Community College’s Filmmaking Program where she always integrates her projects as educational opportunities for students. You will receive an emailed receipt immediately after your donation is submitted and your credit card is processed. Your donation will also show up on your bank or card statement within 1-3 business days.
